Project Description

Since 2022, Throwe has served as the Field Liaison for the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation’s (NFWF) Northeast Grant Programs (NEGP), including the Long Island Sound Futures Fund (LISFF), which covers the entire Long Island Sound watershed.

Since 2005, LISFF has awarded $80M in 688 projects, leveraging an additional $87M in matching contributions from grantees for a total conservation impact of $167M. The projects have reduced 130K lbs. of nitrogen, restored 887 ac. of habitat, treated 218M gal. of stormwater, and engaged 5M people.

As LISFF Field Liaisons, Throwe provides one-on-one assistance to communities as they seek to develop competitive proposals. Throwe’s work with LISFF supports potential grantees in the Upper Basin states of the Sound’s watershed (MA, NH, VT) and non-coastal CT as they develop project proposals

  •
  •   •  Prevent ~619K gal. of stormwater pollution and ~3K lbs. of nitrogen pollution

  •  Remove ~161K lbs. of marine debris

  •  Restore 70 ac. of coastal habitat

  •  Engage over 300K people through stewardship programs

  •  Conserve, enhance, and restore fish, wildlife, and bird habitat and migratory routes

  • Launch new oyster restoration efforts

Funding for LISFF comes from the US Environmental Protection Agency, the US Fish and Wildlife Services, the Long Island Sound Partnership, the Long Island Sound Funders Collaborative, NFWF, and the Zoetis Foundation.
